FND Research Connect is excited to be assisting with recruitment for this study by researchers at The University of Bristol, in the UK, investigating the opinions and use of complementary and alternative treatments by people with FND. The information provided by the researchers is below.
Participation is open to people aged over 18 who live in the UK. You can access the online survey by following this link.
FND Research Connect members have already been emailed an invitation to this study. If you haven’t received an invitation, you can follow the link in the text below to enrol in the study. We also recommend enrolling in FND Research Connect so that you can hear about new functional neurological disorder studies as they begin.
Introduction
You are invited to take part in a research project that has been approved by the University of Bristol Research Ethics Committee (Ethics approval code: 24810). Before you decide if you want to take part, it is important for you to understand why the research is being done and what it will involve. Please take the time to read the following information carefully, and feel free to contact the researchers if you have any questions.
What is the purpose of the project?
This project will explore the use of and opinions about different treatments tried by people with Functional Neurological Disorder (FND). As there is currently limited research in this area, we hope that the findings from this project will contribute to a better understanding of the use of, and opinions about, different treatments for FND, in particular complementary and alternative medicines (CAM). This will help to identify areas for future research in the field of FND treatment, and provide clinicians with a better understanding of the range of treatments that people with FND are using.
Who is doing this research and why?
This research is being conducted by Emma Clifford (mh24880@bristol.ac.uk) at the University of Bristol, supervised by Dr Gemma Johns, Clinical Neuropsychologist at University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust. Findings will be written up as reports and may be submitted for publication in a journal, but individual participants will not be identifiable.
What will I be asked to do?
If you are aged 18 or over, currently living in the United Kingdom (UK) and have been diagnosed with functional neurological disorder, you are invited to take part in this online survey study. The survey involves providing information about yourself, your health and mental health, and details about your FND diagnosis. You will also answer some questions related to your use and opinions about different treatments, including both conventional treatments and complementary and alternative treatments. It should take around 20 minutes to complete the questionnaire.
